Life in Motion…

8 Jan

I’ve always held stop motion animation close to my heart. From the early films of ‘Jason and the Argonauts’ with the amazing creations of Ray Harryhausen, to beloved characters like Morph and Wallace and Gromit. I’ve always found it so fascinating how the simplist materials can be brought alive to create amazing stories! I studied animation whilst at university and created a short stop motion animated film called ‘Da Truth’ for my final project which went on to showcase in a ‘Short Circuit’ film festival alongside short films from all over the world, one of my proudest moments.

Below are a few stop motion short films in different mediums that have caught my eye, imagination and heart. I hope you will also enjoy these inspiring works of art by their talented creators….

1. Dot. The world’s smallest stop-motion animation character shot on a Nokia N8

Professor Fletcher’s invention of the CellScope, which is a Nokia device with a microscope attachment, was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world. All the minuscule detail was shot using CellScope technology and a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics.

2. Sorry I’m Late – by Tomas Mankovsky

A really clever stop motion short shot with a stills camera in the ceiling pointing straight at the floor. Click on the link to the artist website for the film http://sorry-im-late.com/index.html

3. MUTO a wall-painted animation – by BLU

Probably the best and most brilliant wall painting animation i’ve seen. Made in Buenos Aires and in Baden (fantoche), this is realy impressive! Here’s a link to Blu’s website http://www.blublu.org/

4. Her Morning Elegance – by Oren Lavie

Really love this short especially with the music that accompanies it!

5. T-SHIRT WAR!! (stop-motion music video) – by Rhett and Link

Very, very clever and makes me smile everytime i watch it… 222 t-shirts! Thats a lot of washing! :O Self-proclaimed “Internetainers”, here is a link to the comedy duo’s website http://rhettandlink.com/

A quote close to my heart..

Welcome to my blog.

I’ve been a graphic designer now for about 7 years (where does to the time go!!). This is an insight into my mind, what makes me tick and what catches my eye creatively. We are surrounded by inspiring creativity everywhere from advertisements to shop displays, architecture to just pure beautiful landscapes. This my chance to post the things that inspire me as designer ad hopefully on this journey I can inspire others too…
